Harley’s Barkery was first thought of a few months after we received confirmation that our dog, Harley, tested positive for lymphoma. We were devastated. Harley was the first dog we ever adopted and he was only seven years old.
First of all, we want to THANK every single person who has supported us throughout the years. Even the good times with the bad times. We started this adventure (officially) in June of 2014 but started researching and practicing batches of treats in May of 2014.
Our very first event was Woofstock. HumaneCNY put on the event (picture below is our very first set up). The response we received was great! It showed us that there could be a need for natural dog treats in the Central New York area.
Our original product offering included our Peanut Butters, Peanut Butters Cup, and Carob flavors. Later on in October, we would include a limited run of Apple, Apple Pumpkin, and Pumpkin flavor. Eventually, we would include Apple Pie into our flavor lineup. Over the years, we have dropped a couple flavors (Peanut Butters Cup, Carob, Pumpkin), tried a couple new products (Snickerdoodle cookies, “Not Chocolate” Chip Cookies), and brought in some new flavors (Snickerdoodle (biscuits), PBNANA!, BARK’N BBQ). Our current selection includes our original Peanut Butters, Apple Pie, PBNANA!, and BARK’N BBQ. Grain free was something that a lot of customers started looking for and in response to that we created PBNANA! and most recently BARK’N BBQ.
In 2017, we started making our treats available through wholesale. Our first wholesale account was with Dog Daze Pet Shop in North Syracuse. As some may know, the treats are under their Dog Daze Label and we’ve created a flavor for them called BananaBerry (Bananas and Blueberries) that is also Grain Free. We also added Stay and Play Doggie Daycare, Paws and Effect, Green Planet Grocery, and 20|east. Currently we are talking to a few new locations and will announce when they are finalized.
Last year was our first year that we started to transition from strictly vendor events to farmers’ markets. We were approved to sell at the Cazenovia Farmers’ Market. It would be our first time in Cazenovia and we weren’t sure what to expect. Just like our first event in 2014, we were very happy with the response. For 2019, our main focus is farmers’ markets and growing our wholesale clients.
We would like to again Thank You all for your support and we cannot wait for the season to start back up. 2019 looks to be our busiest year.
